Every woman wants to look as chic as possible during her pregnancy without investing a fortune. We’ve teamed up with the chic and practical Stowaway Collection to give you great tips for dressing your bump without sacrificing style or comfort.
Answers by Founder of Stowaway Collection: Stephanie Manganelli
-Where should moms splurge? What are a few key pieces worth investing in to carry you through your pregnancy?
SM: Splurge only on the right pieces to maximize your wardrobe. Every maternity wardrobe needs those YOU pieces; these are the guys to invest in. YOU pieces express your personality and style and are made to last. They should dress down or up with ease for desk-to-dinner and/or be wearable post-baby to make sure you get mileage out of them.
-What are good ways to mix and match basics to stretch a pregnancy wardrobe?
SM: We always suggest to newly pregnant mamas to add the basic maternity tank under your favorite non-maternity items from your existing wardrobe. It keeps your belly from popping out (unless you want that belly popping)!
-What cuts and styles flatter a growing belly?
SM: We have a strong style philosophy here- we feel the more body conscious the silhouette is, the more flattering the clothes are. That’s why Stowaway Collection hugs your curves and highlights your newest and best accessory. We use a lot of shirring on the sides of shirts and dresses for that comfortable close fit that shows off your bump no matter what size.
-What cuts and styles should you avoid?
SM: Style is personal and there aren’t any rules. If you like something, try it on, see if it flatters you. If it does, buy it! If it doesn’t, avoid it!
-How can expectant moms dress comfortably yet appropriately for work?
SM: The key to comfortability is the fabric. Choose fabrics that are made with breathable fibers and a lot of stretch. We make the majority of our items out of Supima Cotton Stretch fabric for this very reason (and the fabric is milled and the clothes are made in the USA). When these fabrics are designed as work-wear it’s a win-win.
-Any tips for dressing up? What can moms wear for parties, events, or date night to feel sexy and pretty but still comfortable.
SM: Find those investment maternity pieces that work for all occasions with ease and change out the shoes and accessories. A great, slim fitting maternity dress with pumps and a jacket is your corner office style but when paired with a strappy-heeled sandal, a clutch, and a bright berry lip, it’s your perfect date night look. Hint: kitten heels are back so utilize them!
