The Luxury Spot- Review of Basq's Resilient Body Oil

When I was pregnant with my son, I was a chipper 24 year old that had resilient-as-all-hell skin that could stand up to a 55 pound weight gain (that’s right, I was a house… and I didn’t have the wild Captain Crunch diet of Jessica Simpson, either). This time around I’m a few years older and a wee bit wiser- I’ve got to oil my thorax up to avoid all the wild stretch marks that so commonly plague women. I’ve tried a bunch out, and as far as the luxury category goes, I’m totally in love with Basq’s Resilient Body Oil. For starters, it’s velvety smooth and not so overwhelmingly thick that you feel goopy after. The consistency is just right, but it’s also loaded with rosehip oil, sweet almond oil, and a ton of other magically safe and beautiful ingredients that’ll leave your feeling feeling and looking like a natural dream. Basq Soothing Foot Relief Spa Set #Giveaway

In June, I set Groove, Move, and Improve goals for my holistic health and wellness journey as part of my involvement with the Simmworks Weight Loss Challenge (a group of bloggers banding together to create healthier lifestyles.)

 My Improve goals were to "Respect and find time/ways to enhance my outer self. Discover new ways to alleviate stress and encourage harmony."  To accomplish for June, I scheduled time for a pedicure (way fun and relaxing!) tried Yoga via DVD (a bit uncomfortable for this newbie, but refreshing,) and I focused on skin care and cleaning up my beauty routine (aka making room for beauty in the bathroom.)

In my journey towards better skin care and stress alleviation, I expanded my knowledge of the fabulous Basq product line.  Basq Cucumber Eye Gel, offering instant eye refreshment, was a quality product I already loved, so when I had the opportunity to try the Basq Rebalancing Facial Cleanser and the Basq Soothing Foot Relief Spa Set, I had very high hopes they would alleviate stress and encourage harmony for my health and beauty routine.

Basq Soothing Eye Gel

Hiya Everyone! Here today to tell you about the Basq Soothing Cucumber Eye gel! I love this stuff, it has a cooling effect on your under eye area. I put this on before I go to bed at night and it makes my under eye area feel so much better! This is sort of a blueish green clear gel and you only need the tiniest bit! I have been using this for two weeks and have only used up what was in the cap when I opened it! A little goes a long way! Ab-tastic Meditation: Good For The Pre/Postnatal Body And Soul

Meditation can be a wonderful tool to protect and repair your abdominal muscles during and after pregnancy.

The rectus muscle is like a zipper down the front of the body that naturally separates in almost all women during pregnancy.

 300 breaths a day (100 in the morning, afternoon, and evening) can calm the mind and keep the abs together.

 From a comfortable seated position, align the shoulders with the hips. Inhale and expand your chest. Exhale while you draw your navel to your spine. In essence, you are doing a seated abdominal crunch. The action is focused only in the belly. Release your big belly breath and repeat.

Ideally, you would be doing your breaths in a peaceful environment with your eyes closed, but moms don't always have that luxury. Try sitting up nice and tall during your commute while playing some calming music (but keep your eyes open!). Having trouble sleeping at night? Deep breathing can help to lull you back to a peaceful slumber.

Taking time to care for yourself as a mother is essential to finding balance in your life. Give meditation a try for the body and the soul.

Prenatal Safe Exercises for Lower Back Pain

One of the most common complaints I hear from my pregnant clients is “my lower back is killing me.”

The relaxin hormone and a growing uterus are to blame, but there are exercises to help ease the pain!

Pelvic Tilt:

Lying on your back with arms are at your sides, bend your knees so that your finger tips are almost touching your ankles. Inhale and press your lower back to the floor. Exhale and tilt the pelvis to create space between the floor and repeat. It is a small but powerful movement that can bring big results. Try 1-20 reps working up to 3 sets of twenty, 3 times a day.

Yoga Cat Cow:

From an all fours table position, open your hands wide like a starfish. Have your wrists under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Inhale Cow; make a hammock with your back, gaze is up towards the sky. Exhale Cat; arch your spine like a scaredy-cat, gaze down towards the floor. Work up to 15 breathes.

Table with Opposite Arm and Opposite Leg:

While in your all four position check your alignment for wrists under shoulders and knees under hips. Extend and raise your leg to hip height, be sure to flex your foot, and make sure your hips are square and even. Then, add your arm extending forward like you are shaking hands with thumb extending towards the sky. Be sure not to go above shoulder height. Inhale back to your original table starting position, then exhale your opposite arm and opposite leg to the extended position. Switch sides and repeat 10-12 reps.

Note: if you have any tingling in the hands or wrists you can modify any all-fours exercise by making fists with your hands.

Remember to continue core strengthening exercises when you are pregnant. Yoga is a fantastic way to build core strength and relieve back pain. After 20 weeks you can still do crunches but do them on a ball or slanted surface (3 risers and a step, head is above heart). Three minutes is the rule for exercising on your back when pregnant. Remember to roll to your left and take a break for circulation purposes.

Please consult your doctor or midwife before beginning any prenatal exercise program. These exercises were designed for low-risk pregnancies.

Finally, one last tip; purchasing a pre-natal support belt can also bring great relief to your lower back. Try one on and you will know right away if this will work for you. It is not a gimmick, but amazing, drug-free relief of back pain.

Current Exercise Guidelines For Low Risk Pregnancies

Exercise can be a wonderful outlet to prepare your mind, body and spirit in preparation for motherhood. New guidelines from ACOG & AFFA suggest that women with low risk pregnancies should workout 30-90 minutes a day! Walking, yoga, light weight-lifting and belly dancing are all fantastic programs to begin during your pregnancy.

Current Considerations and Modifications:

1) Perceived Rate of Exertion: On a Scale of 1-10, you should be about a 7/8 somewhat hard. If you need to test yourself make sure you can speak comfortably

2) Stay well hydrated! Take extra water breaks!

3) Second and Third Trimesters exercising on your back should be limited to 3 minutes. Abdominal work should be done on a slant ie: on a ball.

4) Avoid activities with high risk of falling or contact sports.

5) Hormonal carpal tunnel and tendonitis is quite prevelent. Lifting 3-5lbs weights is recommended. If you have a tingling in the hands or wrists, avoid direct pressure with palms while doing exercises on all fours and use fists and elbows as modification.

7) Especially in the 3rd trimester, if you have heartburn keep your head above your heart.

6) Signs to stop exercising and call your doctor include: vaginal bleeding, difficulting breathing, dizziness, and headache.

Listen to your body at all times, and remember to always consult your doctor or midwife before beginning an exercise program. Exercise can help you physically and mentally prepare you for labor and beyond. Enjoy your journey!
